Bargaining Session Report

As we get into the later stages of bargaining, we will do our best to keep you informed on developments at the table.  Much of our time is now spent in team caucuses reviewing and preparing counter proposals.  Please be patient with us as the sessions get more frequent and longer in duration.  We will also be updating all members at the meeting this Wednesday (August 25) at Noon.  Zoom invitations for Wednesday’s meeting have been sent.

Layoff and Recall.  There have been movements from both sides.  We have made significant progress on adjusting Oakland’s proposed language to limit when layoffs can be used.  This issue may be close to resolution.

Economics.  The two sides are still very far apart on economic issues.  Oakland has moved on its initial retirement proposal, but is still seeking to reduce contributions to health insurance, reduce the faculty tuition benefit, and cut summer teaching pay for the vast majority of full time faculty.  Their proposed annual raises for all faculty do not keep pace with anticipated increases in the cost of living, nor do they even  offset the proposed cuts to other components of compensation.

Course Modality.  Oakland has softened some of its language but is still seeking to eliminate the provision that online teaching is voluntary.

Other.  There was verbal agreement to TA the following with no changes from the previous agreement: Appendix B, Student Faculty Ratio, and Article 26, Department Chairperson.

The two sides have a scheduled meeting today, 8/24, at Noon.
