Bargaining Session Report
The latest meeting between the Association and the Oakland teams took place on Wednesday, August 18th.
Language Items TA’d. The two sides reached a Tentative Agreement on the following parts of the contract: Article IV (with the exclusion of paragraph 9 which remains unresolved), Article VII, Article IX, Article XXIV and Appendix L. The TA’d items include language on the following items:
- A slight increase in the number of credits a graduate student may teach
- Clarification on Joint Appointments, mostly in terms of the review process
- Creating a fair procedure in the event a faculty member is removed from campus
- Modifications to the Grievance Procedure’s list of arbitrators
Layoff and Recall. One language area that remains unresolved is Layoff and Recall. The two sides continued to discuss the latest proposal on the table from Oakland which contains problematic language that gives Oakland the ability to layoff faculty at will. The Association is working on a counter but did not yet have one ready to present at today’s session.
Economics. Oakland presented no counter proposal to the Association’s latest economic proposal made on August 16th. While discussions on salary, health insurance benefits and retirement contributions took place, no progress was made.
The two sides are scheduled to meet next on Thursday, August 19th.
