The call for the vote is not coming from the AAUP. I believe that the Free Press story frames it accurately when it says
"A small group of Oakland University faculty members is calling on the faculty union to sponsor a vote..."

The call for the vote of no confidence that has been circulating during the past few days is not the product of the AAUP or any of the members of the Executive Committee. It represents the actions of a group of faculty who have become extremely frustrated with the administration; they are acting independently.
The goal of the AAUP leadership is to complete the ratification process and provide the membership with an acceptable contract as quickly as possible.

As of yesterday, however, it's official that the AAUP is going to sponsor such a vote. Before we decide anything, could I suggest a little recommended reading from Academe of a couple of years ago?

The initial presentation of this made it seem like this proposed vote was just to go ahead without much discussion among faculty. I am glad to see that some information meetings are now set up.
