| Today, a reference was made to the president's signature in 1999. The reference was brief and it was difficult to hear. I do not understand the details about what happened then and how it affects the current negotiations. I get the main point... that it affects faculty governance. However, I would like to be clear on the details when I discuss our situation with other non-OU faculty and students. Can someone please clarify this issue? | ||

| http://www.oaklandaaup.org/ULPorder.pdf is the judges determination you can read. Basically, the president and vice president signed an agreement with the AAUP over a grievance dispute, which also clarified how part of the contract would be interpreted from then on (in 1999). They basically got together, carried out a governance process and found a solution. Now later in 2008, the administration wants to get rid of that agreement, saying the President had no authority to solve this problem. However the judgement above, is clear that it is totally normal practice for the President of OU to have such authority to sign. The administration has moved to overturn that judgment and wants it declared that our own President has no authority to solve such a grievance on behalf of OU. So the AAUP president actually sent a letter to the BOT asking them stop this challenge to our President's (OU) authority. Edited by mitton on Sep 10, 2009 12:26 am | ||
