| We need to do a much better job of getting our message out. From watching the local news, I've observed two things (1) only the pay issue is getting much attention, and (2) there are many people out there who think that the only thing Oakland professors do is show up to give a lecture. I urge you all to do as I have done and contact your students to tell them about all the things that professors do that make this university function and to share with them the issues of academic freedom, governance, and intellectual property that are at stake. I also call on the union to get through to the press about all the work that faculty do, in addition to that hour of lecture. (I assume you have been trying, but its not getting out yet.) | ||

| Excellent point. I have been to some of the websites our students submit responses to, and most of those responses have been quite negative ("teachers get paid too much anyway for doing nothing, etc."). I suppose it is easier to simply reduce complicated issues down to salaries. We all need to work on this--harder. | ||

| As a student, I completely back up our wonderful professors at OU. I really appreciate their hard work and dedication to my education. Teaching is much more than setting foot in a class and lecturing for a few hours. It goes far beyond that. As for the student body claiming that teachers make too much money, I chalk this up to young students who have yet to learn the concept of money, independence, and the importance of education. Keep up the hard work and know that there are students that really support you. | ||

| Many OU faculty and OU students came out to march in the Labor Day parade this morning, from Wayne State's campus to the water front downtown Detroit. Thanks to OU students for making this effort as well. | ||

| I take issue with anyone saying that teachers are overpaid, here or anywhere in the world, especially when you have sports figures making tons of money, many without having finished their education. Teachers of all levels are desparately underpaid and underappreciated! Obviously people who make this assumption have not had to pay their way, or live on their own means. To the issue at hand, I do agree that maybe something can be done to better assist the relationships between students and teachers. Many times they are on the opposite side of the coin, when they truely have similar goals. Students want to succeed and teacher want to have successfull students. Efforts have to be increased to improve this relationship. In my eyes, when there has been an increase in tuition along with an increase in the number of enrollement and no benefit comes to the teachers or students there is something gravely wrong. | ||
